Cupping Therapy

Dry Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient healing method that will ease back pain, neck pain, headaches and other issues. It uses suction to pull on your skin and increase blood flow to the affected area.

Cupping causes bruising which will fade after a couple of days.

Cupping therapy is a form of traditional medicine that originated in China and West Asia. People has practiced this method for thousands of years.

What does dry cupping do for you?
Cupping uses suction to draw blood to or away rom specific areas of your body. People mostly use cupping to relieve conditions that cause pain. But scientific eveidence shows that cupping helps alsi with chronic health issues, such as:

  • Arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis.

  • Back pain, neck pain, knee pain and shoulder pain.

  • Asthma and other breathing issues.

  • Carpel tunnel syndrome.

  • Gastrointestinal (GI) disorers like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

  • Headaches and migraines.

  • High blood pressure (hypertension).

How does dry cupping work?

Suction from cupping draws fluid into the treated area. This suction force expands and breaks uopen tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under your skin. Your body replenishes the cupped areas with healhier blood flow and stimulates proper and normal healing at a cellular level. Because of this effect, cupping releases toxins.

Types of Dry Cupping

There are two different types of dry cupping: fixed cupping and moving cupping (massage cupping).

Fixed (Dry) Cupping: I use a more modern approach which involves using a suction device to remove air from the cups. The vacuum force pulls your skin up into the cup.

Moving (Massage) Cupping: This is like dry cupping. But before beginning, I will apply olive oil to your skin. Once I place the cups, I will gently move them in different directions over the affected or chosen area of your body.

Wet Cupping or Hijama

The practice of Hijama in Islam was made popular by the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. As per the sunnah, it is known that he has said, "Healing is in three things: A gulp of honey, cupping, and branding with fire (cauterising). But I forbid my followers to use (cauterisation) branding with fire."

It is also mentioned in the Sunnah that Abu Hurairah (r.a.) reported that the Messenger (PBUH) said, "Whoever performs cupping (hijama) on the 17th, 19th or 21st day (of the Islamic, lunar month) then it is a cure for every disease."

How is Hijama performed?

Before applying the cups, each skin area is desinfected with alcohol or other natural desinfectans.

In the more modern version of cupping I use a rubber pump instead of fire to create the vacuum inside the cup.

Wet cupping creates a mild suction by leaving the cup in place for about 3 minutes. I will then remove th cup and use a small scalpel to make light, tiny cuts on your skin. Next, I will do a second suction to draw out a small quantity of blood.

You might get 3-5 cups in your first session. Or you might just try one to see how it goes.Usually 5-7 cups in one sessin are suffiecient to see the full benefits of wet cupping/hijama.
